It's an important day. I wish I had something profound to say, but I don't.
It's important to remember.
I remembered.
I read some moving columns from seven years ago, and a few from today.
It's not enough.
I didn't want you to think I'd forgotten.

trying to figure out how to use this thing...
I agree. It's important to remember. I still haven't gotten myself to see "Flight 93." Too devastating. But I find other ways to remember. Just reading the words of the family members in newspapers is almost overwhelming. The pentagon memorial seems powerful, and I intend to go soon.
I know a couple of Josephs, but I'm assuming this is JJ.
I confuse "Flight 93" and "United 93," but if I recall correctly, they are both good films.
I was lucky enough to have a pretty famous writer (Aharon Appelfeld) teach a class on Holocaust literature during my one semester in Israel. When he tackled the subject in his own fiction -- he had a very moving non-fictional experience as a survivor, as well -- it was always from a distance, almost like intentionally using peripheral vision to look at an object.
Badenheim 1939 is one of his short novels (does that make it a novella?).
If this is the Joseph I think it is, you'll find this pretty odd and interesting. I have the book by my side, and I just noticed the name of a character that's introduced on page two ... Dr. Pappenheim.
